Student guest speaker to visit Hickory Point on Tuesday, Sept. 24
At Hickory Point, we are dedicated to empowering students to actively create a welcoming and supportive community by being open-minded, empathetic, and inclusive toward their peers. We are excited to announce that award-winning author and former professional baseball player Chris Singleton will visit Hickory Point on September 24. Mr. Singleton is a nationally renowned speaker who overcame the loss of his mother in the Charleston Church Shooting in 2015. His presentation, “Love, Unity, and a Positive School Culture,” will focus on overcoming obstacles and fostering connections rather than mentioning his personal loss. Designed to be age-appropriate, his talk will encourage students to embrace diversity and build a community of kindness and understanding.
We look forward to welcoming Mr. Singleton and sharing this valuable experience with our students!
Club Information
In case you missed it, Hickory Point is ready to roll out clubs for the 2024-2025 school year! Hickory Point is thrilled to provide opportunities for students to participate in clubs before school from 7:55 am-to 8:25 am. Clubs provide instruction in various subjects outside of our curriculum but also give students the opportunity to use teamwork, collaboration, and leadership and form friendships. Our goal is to accommodate all students who show interest in clubs. Due to the number of students who want to participate, club sponsors will split students into “sessions.” Each session is a set number of weeks a student will participate in the club during the year. Club sponsors will notify you directly with details about your student’s session. With the complexity of scheduling and to accommodate all students’ participation, it is not possible to take friendship requests or carpool requests for the same sessions.
Please utilize the Clubs Sign-Up form to submit a request for your student to participate in clubs. You must submit a form for each child if you have multiple students at Hickory Point. Students may sign up for more than one club even if the club meets on the same day. Club sign-up will close on Monday, September 23rd, at 4:00 pm. After that date, we will not be able to accommodate any new additions to clubs.
We look forward to all the fun students will have creating, learning, and forming new friendships!
Parent-Teacher Conference Sign-Up
Conference registration will open on September 23 at 9:00 am. until October 4th at 4 pm.
Parent-teacher conferences at Hickory Point School will occur between October 9th and 10th. Conferences are 20 minutes long; parents can meet with the homeroom teacher and exceptional teachers. (PE, Art, Music, Library). We are using Meet the Teacher to sign up for conferences, giving the parents more control over their schedule.
Please get in touch with your child’s teachers or the school office with any questions or concerns. Parent-teacher conferences are just one of the opportunities to talk about progress, and parents are welcome and encouraged to reach out to their child’s teacher(s) at any time during the school year. It’s truly through our collaborative efforts that our students achieve success.
Scheduled Lockdown Drill
Hickory Point will be conducting a scheduled lockdown drill on Friday, September 27. The Northbrook Police Department will be onsite to observe and assist with the drill. Students are briefed in an age-appropriate manner prior to any lockdown drill being called. Parents/guardians may exempt their child(ren) from participating in the drill. Additional information about the drill and exemption can be found below:
