Parking and Driving Around Campus
Please note if you decide to park on Tamarind, please park on the South side of the street only and obey the signage about parking. This will allow for cars and buses to pass safely on the street. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
Arrival and Dismissal Safety
Dear Hickory Point Parents,
We appreciate your support in following our traffic procedures around school. It has been brought to our attention that there are several safety concerns with parents not following the guidelines. We have requested support from the Northbrook Police Department to halt these behaviors. Here is a reminder of the process:
-
Parents dropping off or picking up by car will enter the school parking lot only from Laburnum (from North of the lot heading South) and follow the designated one-way road around the horseshoe to the designated entrance at Door H.
-
Cars may only turn right into the horseshoe and parking lot. No left turn is allowed into the car line from Laburnum or any side streets. You must wait in line on Laburnum to enter the parking lot.
-
Students are not allowed to exit cars on Laburnum. Students can only leave the car from the first five cars in the horseshoe (front of the line nearest Door H). This is a safety issue.
We request all parents follow the rules. As the students and parents learn the procedures, arrival and dismissal will become more safe and efficient. Thank you for your support and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Maureen Deely and Lauren Weingarten
SAEBERS
The fall universal screening for SAEBERS is open until October 14 and will be completed for each student by school staff. This universal tool is the Social Academic and Emotional Behavior Rating Scale (SAEBRS), which focuses on the following areas:
-
Social (Arguing, Temper Outbursts, Disruptive Behavior)
-
Emotional (Sadness, Anxiety, Withdrawal, Lack of Resilience)
-
Academic (Academic Engagement, Production of Acceptable Work, Preparedness).
If a screening shows that a student would benefit from additional support, parents will be contacted and collaborate with the school team to problem-solve and determine the next steps.
Thank you for your support and assistance in ensuring each of our students has the opportunity to achieve academic and social-emotional success. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.
Teacher Email
We highly value the home-school partnership and see our team approach as critical to each student’s success. It is important to note that our teachers are focused on the students and instruction during the school day and may have limited time to check and respond to emails. If an immediate need arises, especially any change in dismissal plans, please get in touch with the Hickory Point Office. Mrs. Caroline Buckland and Mrs. Jill Allen would be happy to help. There are two ways to contact the front office: call or email hp.attendance@nb27.org. Teachers will respond to emails promptly outside of instructional time. Please be patient; we are busy helping your children learn and grow! If you need further information on our communication protocol, please visit our district website.
Guest Speaker
On Tuesday morning, we welcomed Mr. Chris Singleton. Mr. Singleton was a professional baseball player. Currently, he is a motivational speaker and accomplished author. His message fits in with our school-wide theme: You belong here. He used two books to tell a story about accepting differences, being kind, and unity. Below is some more information on Mr. Singleton and his work.
