Happy Spring Break

Dear Hickory Point Community,

We hope you have time to relax with your children. Have a wonderful week. We will see our Bulldogs on March 31 when school resumes.

National Arab American Heritage Month

We will continue our yearlong practice of highlighting various cultures and backgrounds by recognizing National Arab American Heritage Month from April 1-30. This is a time to honor the contributions and cultures of Arab Americans. In addition to recognition displays in the building, students will have access to a menu of short learning options containing read-aloud, books, and videos they may choose to complete.

Autism Awareness Month is April

April is Autism Awareness Month. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental disability; signs typically appear during early childhood and affect a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. Early diagnosis and intervention lead to improved outcomes for young children with Autism. Some of the signs to look for include:

  • Lack of or delay in spoken language
  • Repetitive use of language and motor mannerisms (e.g., hand-flapping, twirling objects)
  • Little or no eye contact
  • Lack of interest in peer relationships
  • Lack of spontaneous or make-believe play
  • Persistent fixation on parts of objects

Our goal at Hickory Point is to increase awareness of differences to create a culture of acceptance and belonging.

Election Day at Hickory Point on April 1

Hickory Point has been designated a community polling place for the April 1st consolidated election. Please know we will maintain our regular school schedule and arrival/dismissal routines that day. The only change is that voting will occur in our school’s music room, so our music teacher will visit classrooms with a music cart. Voters will be limited to one building entrance through Door D, the door facing the staff parking lot. This is not a student entrance. Students will be separated from the voters. Police will be on-site all day to maintain security, ensuring voters do not see or interfere with the regular school schedule.
