Driving and Walking Safely Around Campus

Dear Hickory Point Community,

We are requesting your cooperation with driving and walking across the streets around the school grounds. Unfortunately, we have received reports that we need to be better neighbors when driving around the school's streets. We request that you monitor your speed while driving on school grounds. Additionally, we ask that all walkers walk in the designated crosswalks with their children. Furthermore, supervisors assist children in the horseshoe from 8:10 to 8:30 am. All students arriving by car need to be dropped off in the horseshoe. This is for everyone’s safety. The bus lane is closed for buses only. We appreciate your cooperation.

Staff Appreciation

Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated nationwide on May 4-8, 2026. If you have a moment, please have your child draw a picture, write a note, or email their teacher this week. Thank you to the Teacher Appreciation Committee and our wonderful PTA for recognizing our staff.

Each staff member nurtures every child to succeed in the changing world they are experiencing. Take a moment to thank your child’s teacher. We are fortunate to have an excellent cadre of staff at Hickory Point.

Second Grade STAR Reading and Math

Students will take the spring reading test on May 5 and the math test on May 6. These computer-adaptive assessments measure a student’s general knowledge in reading and mathematics. Computer-adaptive tests (CATs) continually adjust the difficulty of each child’s test by choosing each test question based on the child’s previous response. If the child answers a question correctly, the difficulty level of the next item is increased. If the child misses a question, the difficulty level is decreased. CATs save testing time and spare students the frustration of answering items that are too difficult or too easy. Students typically complete the assessments in 20 to 30 minutes. The assessments are given three times during the year (fall, winter, and spring). Results will be shared with parents in May.

Kindergarten Music Workshop on Wednesday, May 13, 2026

Our kindergarten students will host parents or guardians at their Kindergarten Music Workshop (a maximum of 2 people per student). We invite you to join your kindergartener for an interactive music experience. Please dress appropriately, as we will be sitting on the gym floor, engaging in hands-on activities, singing, playing, and having a lot of fun! We ask that, if possible, please find alternate arrangements for younger siblings so you can devote yourself fully to your kindergartener’s music experience.

We ask parents to enter Door A, sign in on Verkada with their identification, and share their identification in the office. Each meeting will be about 30 minutes long. The schedule is below:

Wednesday, May 13 (in the Gym)

9:30 am - Mrs. Rasmussen and Mrs. Spangler

10:10 am - Mrs. Brouk and Mrs. Posey
