Hickory Point News- Dress for Weather and Report Cards
Fun at recess

Veteran’s Day

We observed and honored Veterans’ Day on Tuesday, November 11. We included a variety of activities to celebrate the veterans in our lives. We listened to patriotic music and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.  Thank you to all of our veterans for your service to our country.

Parking and Driving Around Campus

Please note that if you decide to park on Tamarind, please park only on the South side of the street and obey the parking signage. This will allow cars and buses to pass safely on the street. Children should enter and exit vehicles only from the sidewalk side. Thank you very much for your cooperation.

Dress for Weather

It is essential for students to go outside for 15-20 minutes each day to enjoy fresh air, exercise, and have friendly conversations with classmates. Students should be prepared to go outdoors for recess throughout the fall and winter months! Be sure to send your students to school with jackets, hats, scarves, and mittens to keep them warm. Students need boots and snow pants to play in the snow. Please help keep Hickory Point School healthy by encouraging your child to wear appropriate clothes while playing outdoors during recess. Also, please write your child’s name on jackets, sweatshirts, and hats/gloves. Thanks for your cooperation.

Report Cards

Parents can access the first-trimester report cards electronically on Thursday, December 4, at noon via the  Parent Portal. Report cards are available electronically upon the conclusion of the first and second trimesters. A printed copy will be sent home with students on the last day of the third trimester.

For instructions on accessing your child’s report card on Infinite Campus, view this 30-second video. The first section of the video is for Wood Oaks students, and the second section addresses kindergarten through fifth grade.

In Summary:

  1. To access your child’s report, log in to Parent Portal.
  2. Then, on the left, click “More.” On the new main window, you can now click Online report cards.
  3. Once you click on that, you must choose your child’s name from the drop-down menu, then the report card you wish to view.

Terra Nova for Second Grade Students

Dear Hickory Point Second Grade Parent,

Second grade students will take the Terra Nova Tests between December 2 and December 5, 2025. Testing will take place throughout the day. You can help your child do their best on the test by:

  • Ensure your child attends school on the days of testing and arrives on time. Once a testing session has begun, children may enter the classroom during the next break. Also, unless they become ill, children should not be called out of the room or allowed to leave the classroom during a testing session. Breaks are given between tests.
  • Ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep the night before the test.
  • Providing breakfast for your child.
  • Remind your child to ask the teacher questions if they need help understanding the test directions.
  • Let your child know you have confidence in their ability to do their best.
  • Advising your child not to worry about the test -- just do their best.

You will receive information about your child’s performance results in January.

Please contact your child’s teacher or us with any questions or if you have additional information.
