Anti-Bullying Curriculum

The physical and emotional safety of every student and staff member is paramount to our school. We identify critical concerns that are important to our students and staff. We take bullying seriously. The purpose of this letter is to talk about the proactive plan we have in place to address bullying. A widely used definition describes bullying as behavior that:

  • Is intentional (meant to harm or distress)
  • Happens repeatedly over time
  • Involves a power imbalance

Bullying happens when a person or group of people wants to have power over another and uses their power to get their way, at the expense of someone else.

Hickory Point has a school-wide Positive Behavior and Intervention System. Students and staff are trained on expectations. Anti-Bullying curriculum and tools are in place at Hickory Point. All students have been trained in Stop, Walk, and Talk, the Anti-Bullying curriculum. We encourage our students to use these strategies and to immediately access a trusted adult at school if they are having trouble resolving a peer issue. Normal peer conflicts do not meet the definition of bullying. We want to ensure that a strong partnership between our students and staff can manage these concerns.

Thank You, Volunteers

We would like to recognize each parent who volunteered during the school year. Your support and help allow us to continue our excellence. A special thank you to the PTA Executive Board for their ongoing support of school initiatives. We were recently asked about how many parents volunteer at Hickory Point. As we reflected upon the question, we realized that it is almost every parent at some point during the school year. Great schools do not happen by chance. Our work together allows us to accomplish great things. On behalf of the Hickory Point staff, we recognize and appreciate every volunteer. We want to thank you for donating your most valuable resource, your time. For families leaving Hickory Point, we will certainly miss you and wish you well in the future. Have a great summer.

Aims Testing

All students will be participating in Literacy Benchmark Screenings. This screening is completed three times a year: August, January, and May. These screenings take 3-5 minutes for each student. Our intervention team will be screening all students on May 12-15.

Library End-of-Year Information

As we wrap up another great year of reading and digital citizenship, please take note of these important dates for the school library:

  • Friday, May 15: This will be the last day for students to check out library books for this school year.
  • Monday, May 18th – Friday, May 22: This week is designated for Book Returns Only. We ask that all library books be returned to the HP Library during this time to complete our end-of-year inventory.
