Class placement notification

Dear Hickory Point Parents,

As the closing of the 2018-2019 school year draws near, we want to share a change to our class list mailing that is typically sent home in August. Parents will sign into Infinite Campus about a week before school begins to find out their child’s teacher assignment(s). To maintain student confidentiality, we will no longer include a class list of names in the mailing. We share a concern with many families who do not want the class information made public, including on social media. We respectfully request that parents do not create their own lists or make class information public. Children will meet their classmates on the first day of school, and teachers will make every effort to provide welcoming activities so that children develop friendships and feel comfortable from the very start of the school year. As mentioned in previous newsletters, the class development process we follow seeks to create classes where we hope the children thrive academically and socially. Information about pertinent opening day information will continue to be mailed home in August.

For your children,

Maureen Deely and Meggan Buchanan

STAR Update for Second Grade Parents

This week the district administered the STAR math assessments in grades 2-5. Although we experienced very limited interruptions, we had too many uncertainties regarding the ability to administer additional tests without system disruptions. Therefore, we will not continue grade level testing. We anticipate mailing reports home at the end of next week. A cover letter will provide detailed information about the assessments. The district continues to work with the vendor of STAR with the goal of gaining assurances of a stable testing environment for the future. In terms of student placement decisions (math and ELP), we will make adjustments to our placement criteria for grade levels that did not complete spring assessments.

Family fun night is June 7 at 6:30 pm

Important dates:

  • School is not in session--Monday, May 27 (Memorial Day)

  • Last day for Hot Lunch--Friday, May 31

  • Field day--Friday, June 7

Have a great holiday weekend!
