In this edition:

  • South staff parking lot

  • Star testing

  • Second grade transition activity

  • Online registration

South staff parking lot

Dear Parents,

Please do not drop off or pick up children in the south staff parking lot. It is unexpected that children would be getting in or out of cars in this area. It is not a safe option. Thank you for your cooperation.

Dear Second Grade Parents,

STAR testing will be administered beginning May 6.  Star assessments by Renaissance Learning are a series of tests that measure a student’s general knowledge in reading and mathematics. The tests are computer-adaptive. Computer-adaptive tests (CATs) continually adjust the difficulty of each child’s test by choosing each test question based on the child’s previous response. If the child answers a question correctly, the difficulty level of the next item is increased. If the child misses a question, the difficulty level is decreased. CATs save testing time and spare students the frustration of answering items that are too difficult or easy. Students typically complete the assessments in 20 to 30 minutes.

The assessments will be administered to students in grades 2-8 (except students in algebra and geometry will not take the math assessments). Students will take the assessments in the fall, winter, and spring.

STAR Reading

STAR Reading is an assessment of reading comprehension and skills for independent readers through grade 12. The assessment tracks development in five domains:

  • Word Knowledge and Skills

  • Comprehension Strategies and Constructing Meaning

  • Analyzing Literary Text.

  • Understanding Author’s Craft.

  • Analyzing Argument and Evaluating Text

STAR Math is an assessment of math achievement for students in grades 1–12. The assessment tracks development in four domains:

  • Numbers and Operations.

  • Algebra.

  • Geometry and Measurement.

  • Data Analysis, Statistics, and Probability.

Score Reports to Parents

Score reports will be sent home to parents at the end of the school year and will contain

scores from the fall, winter, and spring test administrations.

Second grade transition activity

Dear Second Grade Parents,

On  Tuesday Second grade students took the bus to Shabonee in the morning with their class for a private second and third grade instrumental music performance by the students from Wood Oaks. The performance was followed by a visit in third grade where they learned more about the school and what to expect next year as Shabonee Dolphins. We are excited for our Bulldogs as they prepare for their transition to Shabonee.

For your children,

Maureen Deely and Meggan Buchanan
