Erin’s Law (Second posting)

Dear Hickory Point Parents,

In compliance with State law, a program on child sexual abuse awareness and prevention will be presented to students on February 12, 2019. The presentations will be made by Victor Pacini. Victor Pacini is an author, song writer, singer and motivational speaker. He will be assisting our schools in implementing this mandate. His program is developmentally appropriate, interactive and aligned with learning standards. He is native to the area and has presented in front of over a million students and parents in numerous districts in Illinois and nationwide. We are excited to have him join us on February 12.

The program is being scheduled in response to Erin’s Law, a State law requiring that all public schools implement a sexual abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades K-12. For additional information about Erin’s Law, please visit www.erinslaw.org.

The presentations will cover the following topics:

  • Safe touch, unsafe touch, confusing touches

  • Private body parts (parts of the body covered by a bathing suit)

  • Good and bad secrets

  • Saying “no” to unwanted touches

  • Safety steps and reporting

These presentations are designed to empower and educate children in a developmentally appropriate, child-friendly manner. If you do not wish for your child to participate in this program, please email Hickory Point Principal, Mrs. Deely, informing her of your request to have your child excluded. A confirmation acknowledgment of your request will be sent.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Deely and Mrs. Buchanan

Valentine’s Day at Hickory Point

Classroom Valentine’s Day parties will take place the afternoon of February 14. Children may bring Valentine cards as long as they include everyone in their class. Please refrain from including candy cards because we have many students who have food allergies.

We want to ensure the safety of all of our students at Hickory Point. Thank you for your cooperation. We are looking forward to a happy and safe occasion for everyone.

School is not in session on Monday, February 18th.
