Dear Hickory Point Parents,

It is hard to believe that we will be actively engaged in Parent/Teacher Conferences next week. Conferences will be held on February 6 and 7. Please be prompt for your appointment in order to make the meeting as productive as possible. We believe that communication between the school and home is an invaluable tool in a child’s education and extremely important in facilitating a successful outcome.

Hickory Point staff works diligently to prepare for conferences. Attending these important school meetings ensures a strong home/school partnership, which is crucial to the success of our students. I hope that this experience proves to be valuable for both you and your child. This is the perfect opportunity for you to gain a different perspective on a day in the life of your student. We are looking forward to seeing you at Conferences.

Erin’s Law (First posting)

Dear Hickory Point Parents,

In compliance with State law, a program on child sexual abuse awareness and prevention will be presented to students on February 12,  2019. The presentations will be made by Victor Pacini. Victor Pacini is an author, song writer, singer and motivational speaker. He will be assisting our schools in implementing this mandate. His program is developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with learning standards. He is native to the area and has presented in front of over a million students and parents in numerous districts in Illinois and nationwide. We are excited to have him join us on February 12.

The program is being scheduled in response to Erin’s Law, a State law requiring that all public schools implement a sexual abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades K-12. For additional information about Erin’s Law, please visit

The presentations will cover the following topics:

  • Safe touch, unsafe touch, confusing touches

  • Private body parts (parts of the body covered by a bathing suit)

  • Good and bad secrets

  • Saying “no” to unwanted touches

  • Safety steps and reporting

These presentations are designed to empower and educate children in a developmentally appropriate, child-friendly manner. If you do not wish for your child to participate in this program, please email Hickory Point Principal, Mrs. Deely, informing her of your request to have your child excluded. A confirmation acknowledgment of your request will be sent.
