Bulldogs Are Respectful, Responsible, and Kind Kids (BARRK)

PBIS is a proactive systematic approach designed to improve student behavior across all grade levels to help students achieve social, emotional, and academic success. Data about student behavior is collected and analyzed by our school’s PBIS team in order to respond proactively to identified areas of concern. All staff members work together to consistently teach, model, reteach, and reinforce the school behavior expectations. These expectations are used across all settings in the school, including areas like the lunchroom, the playground, the bus, and even bathrooms. Our bulldogs have been doing a fantastic job being respectful, responsible, and kind kids. For the month of December, our students have been working on exhibiting expected behaviors in the lunchroom. They will be acknowledged for their efforts with music each Friday.  In January, students will go through a series of rotations to re-teach expected behaviors. We will also reinforce SWAT, or stop, walk, and talk, with our students to empower students to solve small problems.

We focus our attention in many ways on the positive behaviors that students exhibit throughout the day that positively impact a classroom and school culture. One way we do this is by acknowledging three students each Thursday for exhibiting BARRK behavior at Hickory Point. Their names are announced on morning announcements and they come to the office for a prize. Check out our twitter page, @HickoryPoint27, to see pictures of our wonderful bulldogs receiving this acknowledgement. Parents can support PBIS by using PBIS language and reinforcing the positive/expected behaviors at home.

Importance of arriving to school on time

Dear Hickory Point Parents,

We request your support in ensuring your child arrives to school on time. The first bell rings at 8:25 am. Students line up and begin to walk into Hickory Point within a few minutes. Students who are in the classroom location at 8:30 am are considered on time. The habit of arriving on time is established at an early age. Important learning begins at the start of each school day. Establishing a commitment and habit to arrive on time for school is linked to strong participation in school. We understand the weather and other factors negatively influence travel conditions  and at times we will extend the arrival time window for a few minutes. We love to see their smiling faces in class when the school day begins. Thank you for supporting our work with your children.

For your children,

Mrs. Deely                                                                   Mrs. Buchanan
