School district books and materials (final posting)

Dear Hickory Point Parents,

We hope you are all doing well. We appreciate your partnership and dedication over the past few months. We know you have teacher owned materials, library books, classroom library books, and other district-provided learning supplies at home.  We have made a decision to delay returning these materials. We want our students to have access to books over the summer. We will have a process for collecting the school district books and supplies when school resumes in the fall. Thank you.

E-Learning Survey and schedule for the last two weeks in May

Dear Hickory Point Parents,

It’s hard to believe in a few weeks, and we will be closing up the 2019-2020 school year on June 2.  We are so proud of our students and their response to the unusual circumstances we encountered this year. We would love your feedback about E-Learning. Dr. Kroeze sent a parent survey in his weekly email on Friday, May 15. Here is a link to the survey. Please take a few moments to provide your insights and feedback. The survey will close on Tuesday, May 26th at 5 pm.

Tuesday, May 26 through Friday, May 29, will be  E-Learning days directed by the curriculum slide decks. On Monday, June 1st, students will have Google Hangout Meetings, a K-2 STEAM Options slide deck, and  Virtual Field Day. Mr. Kraft and Mr. Muff have created a day filled with physical activities and fun. Tuesday, June 2 is our last day of school. Teachers and support staff will be hosting Google Hangout Meetings to say goodbye to our students.  We hope this information is helpful to you.

Second grade transition activity

Third grade Shabonee students are preparing activities to support the incoming group of students as the children begin to think about next year. While we do not know what the fall will entail at this time, we know that learning will continue and we want the kids to feel comfortable as they make the transition to the next grade. Current third grade Shabonee students are making a class book to “teach” the second graders all about Shabonee. Their special books will be included in the second grade slide decks during the week of May 26. We also know that we will need to do more in the fall when school begins to help all children get reacclimated to school. Details will be shared later in the summer when we have specific information.

Summer Bingo

Due to limitations of COVID-19, students will have the opportunity to participate in a Bingo based reading program this summer in place of our usual summer reading program. You will be provided with three different Bingo boards (June, July, and August), with fun options to help engage your child in reading throughout the summer. Bingo boards will also come with recording sheets for students to track their reading choices and take notes based on completed Bingo squares. Students can earn one prize book for each month, as long as they complete at least one Bingo per board. They will be able to collect their prize books soon after we return to school. Stay tuned for more details!
