Dear Hickory Point Community,
We have been showered with appreciation and gratitude this week. Thank you so much for recognizing our staff throughout the week. We love the heartfelt, handwritten thank you notes and emails from our students and parents. We enjoyed many sweet treats and gifts this week as well. We are so fortunate to serve you and your children. Thank you for your partnership and support.
The Hickory Point Staff
Aims testing is May 16-18
All students will be participating in Literacy Benchmark Screenings. This screening is completed three times August, January, and May. These screenings take 3-5 minutes for each student. Our intervention team will be screening all students from May 16-18.
PBIS Initiative (final posting)
Bulldogs focus on having a safe body and using strategies when a small problem occurs during May. Students will be acknowledged for their efforts with a special Bulldog Buck. Students will drop their special buck in a grade level jar by the office for a chance to win a prize. Parents can support our efforts at home by encouraging their children to use their words when there is a conflict, keep their hands, feet, and body to themselves, and use calm down tools when not in the green zone.
Student Google Access(final posting)
For reasons related to the pandemic, Google account access for students was left on over the summer of 2020 and 2021. This year, student Google access will be turned off for the summer. This was the practice pre-pandemic. Student Google accounts will not be accessible starting at midnight on June 2nd. Due to school being in session on June 1st, this is the earliest accounts can be turned off. Accounts will be turned back on for the first day of school in August. Students participating in the Summer Success Program will have their accounts reactivated.
It’s hard to believe, but it’s almost time for SUMMER BREAK! These last few weeks of school are a great time to plan for your child’s summer reading.
Does your Bulldog have a library card of their own from the Northbrook Public Library? If not, consider making the trip there sooner than later to sign up for one. This can be an exciting and transformative experience in your young reader’s life. The Northbrook Public Library is rich in resources and opportunities.
Please also consider having your child participate in the Northbrook Public Library Summer Reading Program. Check out this flyer here. A structured program can be motivating, rewarding, and fun! Sign-up begins on June 1st, and there is a big kick-off celebration on Sunday, June 5th, from 1-4 pm. I will be sharing more details with the kids next week during library lessons.
Here in the Hickory Point library, book checkout ends on May 20th. Please return books on or before your child’s library day the following week. In Kindergarten, we will end the year with a mini-author study of Chris Van Dusen (which may involve a bit of building). Chris Van Dusen is the well-loved author and illustrator of the If I Built series. First and second graders will have a chance to build a summer reading list of their own at our in-house picnic-style “book tasting.”
Here’s to a summer of sun, fun, and never-ending, joyful reading!
