Hickory Point Happenings August 20, 2021

First day

Dear Hickory Point Parents,

The first day of school was great. We welcomed 412 students. Over the next few days, we will be working on getting to know each other, building routines, and creating a culture of learning in the classrooms. Thank you to all of our parents for a smooth start to the year. Have a wonderful weekend.

Curriculum Night is August 24 at 6:30 pm

Hickory Point will be hosting our annual Curriculum Nights with an in-person component this year at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, August 24.  Due to the capacity limitations of our classrooms, we ask that parents limit in-person attendance to one parent per child. We will also be live streaming these presentations so that those who are not present will still participate in the experience virtually.  Information and classroom Zoom links will be sent out before this event. We are looking forward to seeing you in the building again for the first time in over a year. Here is the schedule:

Aims testing is August 25, 27 and 31

All students will be participating in Literacy Benchmark Screenings.  This screening is completed three times a year during August, January, and May.  These screenings take 3-5 minutes for each student.  Our intervention team will be screening all students on August 25, 27 and 31.

Bus registration

We have started accepting registration forms to begin service on Monday, 09/13/2021.

The cutoff for applications will be Friday, September 3rd. If you wish to register for transportation service, please use this link

There will be no changes to the bus routes as we will need to coordinate with our transportation service to review all requests to add riders on the existing routes.  This will also allow sufficient time for us to communicate changes in stop times to all families.

School fees

We have received several inquiries regarding school fees. Please be advised that the Business Office is aware of a display issue where OPTIONAL fees (for example, Milk, Bus, PTA) are included in the total. They are working to resolve this; please do not pay any OPTIONAL fees from prior years at this time.

Travel Guidelines

DOMESTIC: Per the Cook County Department of Public Health, any unvaccinated persons traveling from an Orange state on Chicago’s Travel Advisory map should obtain a negative COVID test result no more than 72 hours before arrival in Suburban Cook County or quarantine for a 10-day period upon arrival. The test can be PCR or rapid antigen if asymptomatic. Vaccinated persons do not need to quarantine or receive a negative test. Negative test results should be submitted to the school nurse before returning to school.

INTERNATIONAL: Per the CDC, all international travelers must have a negative test result prior to travel to the US, regardless of vaccination status. Further, unvaccinated persons should obtain a negative COVID test result 3-5 days after arrival in Suburban Cook County AND stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel. The test can be PCR or rapid antigen if asymptomatic. Negative test results should be submitted to the school nurse prior to returning to school.
