It is essential for students to go outside for 15-20 minutes each day to enjoy fresh air, exercise, and have friendly conversations with classmates. Students should be prepared to go outdoors for recess throughout the fall and winter months! Be sure to send your students to school with jackets, hats, scarves, and mittens. Students need boots to play in the snow. Also, please write your child’s name on jackets, sweatshirts, and hats/gloves. It’s incredible how many missing items pile up so quickly! Encourage your child to check lost and found in the coming weeks if they are missing anything.
Children must be dressed in snow gear to play in the snow or on the playground at recess. Please plan to either send snow gear each day or leave snow gear in your child’s cubby. This ensures they stay both warm and dry. As a reminder, we go outside for recess unless:
- Temperature is below 15 degrees
- Heavy new snow of three inches or more
- Rain, regardless of the amount
- The temperature, when combined with the wind speed, produces a wind chill of 10 degrees or below
